Revolution Kids: Preventing Crime One Bike at a Time
Revolution Kids came to fruition the fall of 2010 through a grant provided by the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention. The Revolution Kids program has been developed to teach bike repair skills to youth while they simultaneously earn community service hours and also earn a bike for themselves.
Partnering with the City of Annapolis Police Department, Transportation Department, and Recreation & Parks Department, the Box of Rain program engages youth in a constructive activity that leads to skill development, positive social engagement, and community service. The program also reaches out to the community, as participants get involved in community bike drives, hosting an annual bike sale, and visiting local scout groups to teach bike safety and rules of the road. Currently the bike shop is housed within the Pip Moyer Recreation Center at Truxton Park. Classes meet each Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-7:30pm and on Saturdays from 10am-12pm. You are welcome to stop by the shop at any time to learn more about this exciting program.
